The Babysitter’s Club

Some people might think that babysitting is just a way to earn a few extra dollars a week. One teenager, who is only 14, has found that babysitting can be a very profitable business. She has had to hire a CEO in order to keep up with all of the money she is making. The young sitter has reportedly made about $480,000 a year from the job. She started a few years ago, and her clientele has blossomed into about 190 clients. She has a nanny service which helps her make the money she does each year. Flávio Pentagna Guimarães BMG says some teens have what it takes to develop a business that is successful. They know how to organize the business, and they know how to get the best out of the people they work with. This could be the start of a new venture for teenagers across the country.

Jason Halpern and JMH Development On the Move

Jason Halpern, founder and managing principal of JMH Development has revealed project plans for Miami Beach project.

It’s right here that a new luxury condo building will be going up. It’s been officially called the Three Hundred Collins. This a 5-story building. Who is designing it? It’s being done by famed-designer Thomas Juul-Hansen. This is the same guy who did the One57 place in New York. Those of you who already know of this property, you are somewhat familiar with his work.

The plans call for residencies on floors 2-5. There will be a lobby and amenity room on the first floor. There will also be a parking lot behind the building. Inside the condos and penthouses begin at $1.2 million. Many of them are going to up at least $9 million. This is an exclusive place. Only those who have serious cash here in Miami will be allowed in. The space for each residency varies. The average space is about 1500 square feet. Some will be only 1000 square feet, others will be closer to 3700 square feet. There will be big terraces. Most of the condo and penthouses will have marble and wooden floors and high ceilings.

The bathrooms will be made of marble. There is also going to be a rooftop deck and a huge pool, as well as a fitness center. This is not another condominium being put up in Miami. Miami, especially South Miami, already has tons of condos. This project is something different.

The project is expected to be confirmed in April and begin construction soon after. Halpern doesn’t expect completion to be until 2017. There is another project on board for Miami too.

Christopher Cowdray Grows More and More

Christopher Cowdray is now the CEO of the Dorchester Collection. Now, this collection has since spanned to cover several different hotels throughout the world, and while it is not as large as many of the other hotel chains, it is one of the most prestigious. Since being around in 1996, the hotel chain contains 10 different locations. Christopher Cowdray, from Zimbabwe, became the CEO of the company due to his tireless work in the industry and his experience with working and managing hotels throughout the world. Knowing a bit more about the Dorchester Collection can help shed some light on his overall career though.

First, looking at the different hotels it is possible to see where the Dorchester Collection focuses most of its time. The Dorchester is the original hotel purchased by the company (Brunei Investment Agency is the parent company of the hotel chain). This hotel has been the main stay of the hotel chain sin 1986. It is located in London, but it is no longer the only hotel located in the United Kingdom that is managed by the Dorchester Collection and Christopher Cowdray. Coworth Park, located in Ascot was purchased and refurbished in 2008 and then reopened in 2010. Following this, Christopher Cowdray acquired the 45 Park Lane hotel in 2011. This is actually the smallest hotel in the entire collection as it has just 45 rooms, but it is the perfect boutique hotel for those who are looking for it.

Inside the United States, while the Dorchester Collection did originally have a hotel located inside of the city of New York, it now is focused on the West Coast as The Beverly Hills Hotel has been open since 1995 and the Hotel Bel-Air opened up in LA in 2011 (after two years of renovations). The rest of the hotels managed by the chain are in Europe. There are two in France with the Le Meurice and The Plaza Athenee. The Le Richmond in Switzerland is operated by the company and is actually the oldest hotel in Geneva and then there are two in Italy, with the Hotel Principle di Savoi and Hotel Eden.

Beyond just hotels though, Christopher Cowdray managed and overseas several different restaurants and spas. Many of these are located inside of the hotels, although not all of the hotels feature their own restaurants, so it just adds to the intrigue and sophistication of the collection.

Bob Dylan Gives Comprehensive Speech

Famous singer-songwriter Bob Dylan gave a speech recently while accepting a Person Of The Year award from the MusiCares organization. The speech was unusual for Bob Dylan, who usually gives short speeches, because it was around a half an hour long. In the speech, Bob Dylan covered a number of topics related to his career. Rolling Stone Magazine has an in depth analysis of the speech on their website.

One part of the speech that struck me as interesting is when Dylan noted that critics often ridicule his distinctive voice. He said that while he is singled out for ridicule, singers like Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen who also have odd voices aren’t. Dylan is clearly sensitive about his voice, and that is something that you would not expect since he has had so much success in so many ways. In fact, he’s basically a darling of the critics so it’s unusual to hear him sound bitter about them.

Fans like Flavio Pentagna Guimaraes BMG know that Bob Dylan also thanked former president Jimmy Carter. It turns out that the two are friends, which is interesting. The article mentioned that Carter invited Bob Dylan to visit when Carter was still the governor of Georgia. Carter must have been a true fan, since there wouldn’t have been much political value in associating with Dylan at that time.

All in all, this article by Rolling Stone is well worth reading.

NYPD Officers Given Support from Keith Mann

The founder of Dynamics Search Partners, which provides staffing solutions for hedge fund investment companies, has shown his support for the embattled New York Police Department, according to CBS 8. Keith Mann and his wife Keely have responded to the ongoing demonstrations felt throughout the Big Apple about a number of incidents involving police officers and violent individuals. Keely Mann has a personal stake in showing her support for the NYPD as her uncle works as a detective in Staten Island, a personal involvement that spurred the couple to provide a free lunch for the members of the 54th Precinct on two occasions in recent months.

Keith Mann sees himself as one of the silent majority of New Yorkers and US citizens as a whole who are fully supportive of police departments and law enforcement as a whole across the country. In response to recent violent protests about the alleged mistreatment of individuals by the NYPD, a number of peaceful protests have been held to highlight the support many in New York have fort heir police department. The founder and CEO of Dynamics Search Partners decided to act instead of simply make a donation to any police fund to highlight his strong feeling on the subject of supporting the police. Making his first lunch donation in early January 2015, Mann repeated the gesture in early February as he was determined to make a point about his support of the New York Police Department.

Teen Saves Woman from Bridge Suicide

Brennan Bardowski is being hailed as a hero in his hometown of Menominee, Michigan after saving a life the other night. The 17-year-old student was crossing the Hattie Street Bridge in near-by Marinette, Wisconsin when he noticed something odd out of the corner of his eye. It was a woman standing near the edge of the bridge and she was removing her shoes. Brennan kept his eye on her and began to realize that something was not quite right. She began to lift her leg over the edge when he made the decision to pull over.

Brennan slowly approached where the woman was. By the time he made it to her, she was completely over the railing and on the edge of the bridge. She told him that she was planning on jumping. With amazing insight for his age, Brennan managed to stay calm and slowly talk the woman out of doing what she planned. He reminded her that people would miss her and kept comforting her until she began climbing back onto the bridge. He grabbed her arms and helped pull her back over.

According to the story on, that went viral, being picked up and shared from some of the most notable advocates of the era, Brennan credits a video that he saw recently in school that helped him to know what to do in a situation like that. The woman is now getting the help she needs and Brennan will be receiving a life-saving award from the police department.

The Storied Career of Bruce Levenson

For many folks, the world of professional basketball both begins and ends on the actual court. The players are the extension of the brand with their uniforms being the only outward sign of a cohesive force at play.Despite being one of the most popular sports in the history of the United States, many folks still do not look past what is happening on an almost nightly basis. In fact, most people never really realize how big a part the ‘above the line’ people play in the sport. For our part, we need to take a moment to look at some of the influential owners of the league. Bruce Levenson, who co-owns the Atlanta Hawks, is who we will be highlighting first.

Bruce Levenson was born in Washington D.C. but he grew up in small town Maryland He went to school at Washington University, the branch that is located in St. Louis, and he followed up that schooling by getting his law degree at American University. As you can tell from these impressive credentials Levenson was not the kind of person to sit idly by. No, it was while he was at American University that he began to chase journalism and it wasn’t long until he was completely enraptured by the world of professional sports.

But before Levenson became the influential and successful NBA owner that he is today, he had success co-founding the United Communications Group. Based in Maryland, and founded alongside Ed Peskowitz, this group specializes in data analysis for a number of the major industries that move money in the world. It was started in Levenson’s apartment and it was initially focused completely on the oil industry. Now the UCG has their hands on data for healthcare, technology, telecom and many other industries.

While it was the UCG that gave Levenson the jump start to his high profile career, it wasn’t until 2004 that he burst into a new stratosphere. As a part of the Atlanta Spirit LLC, Levenson teamed with his friend Ed Peskowitz to purchase the Atlanta Hawks alongside another group of businessmen. Levenson also acquired the Atlanta NHL property as well in the sale. Since his acquisition, Levenson has helped keep Atlanta firmly in the playoff hunt for almost every season of his ownership. He is now looking to move on to different industries and is planning on selling his share of the ownership of the franchise.

John Textor and the Evolution of Digital Graphics

A thorough discussion of John Textor is inexplicably linked to the work he accomplished with his time at Digital Domain. Yet, before we can really, and truly, discuss his work there we must understand a little bit about the man himself. John Textor, like many giants of industry, did not rise up out of the ground to put on a suit and dominate his profession. No, instead there were many steps along the way that helped mold him into the business man that stands before you today. Let’s begin by discussion the early days of his education before examining how they set a course for his future.

John Textor attended university at Wesleyan. It was there that he managed to pull in a Bachelors Degree of Economics. He was an impeccable student and seemed to take his learning to heart. And it showed. It wasn’t long until Textor was fully in the thick of things in the world of business. He leaped out of school and straight into the fire of equity when he co-founded Wyndcrest Holdings. Wyndcrest was a private equity firm that would go on to see incredible rates of return in its early years. The firm focused on information technology, telecommunication, and entertainment. It was these early seeds of business that would sprout Textor into the next big thing in Hollywood.

Once John felt that he had reached his ceiling with Wyndcrest he quickly moved on into his next venture. This choice would lead him straight to Hollywood via a company by the name of Digital Domain. Digital Domain is a 3D production studio based in California. They were first established in 1993 and it wasn’t long until they were changing the way that we perceived entertainment. Their early work on films like ‘Apollo 13’ would set the tone of the things to come. But all good things can falter and by 2006, when John Textor stepped on, they were looking pretty slowed down.

Of course that is where Textor would go on to make his name. He personally led over 25 projects forward with the company including such studio blockbusters as ‘Transformers’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End’. While working on these films John would also have a hand in 3D holograms. He helped get a 3D representation of Tupac, the famous deceased rapper, on stage. He now focuses almost entirely on work of that nature with Pulse.

Mark Ahn said for start-ups to succeed they should stick with their plan and don’t try to follow trends because biotech product development cycles can be long and start-ups may need multiple rounds of funding. But if they stick with their business plan they can succeed. Mark Ahn has outlined his thoughts on what it takes for investors in and founders of biotech start-ups need to do to succeed in an article entitled “Biotechnology Innovation: A Legitimacy-Based View” which appeared in the International Journal of Innovation Technology Management
