Bachelor Contestant Explains Why She Was Reported Missing

On Monday night, the latest Bachelor decided not to give a rose to Bekah Martinez, a 22-year-old nanny from Los Angeles. Whether it was that the age difference between 36-year-old Arie Luyendyk and Bekah that doomed the relationship or that the two just didn’t click like he did with the other contestants, the fact is that “Bekah M.” will be remembered much more for something else that happened.

Back in November, she was reported as a missing person by her mother to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.

The whole incident started on November 12, when Bekah talked her mom on the phone and told her that she would be out of contact for about a week. Bekah was planning on working at her friend’s marijuana farm, which was in a relatively isolated area near Eureka, CA. It turns out that the area didn’t have any cell service, making it impossible for Bekah’s mother to get in contact with her.

After not hearing from her for several days, Bekah’s mother filed a missing person report with the local sheriff’s office. In response, the sheriff’s office tried to track down Martinez and any friends that she may have been with. Since their cell phones did not have any service, it seemed as if there was a problem.

Everything was resolved when Bekah headed back down to town. She made a call to her mother less than 24 hours after the missing person report was submitted, and all was resolved in the end.
