Beyonce Takes Her Daughter to an Awards Ceremony

The popular singer Beyonce appeared on Sunday night at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards together with her young daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. The singer’s appearance at the event occurred in conjunction with an act indirectly promoting Black Lives Matter, a controversial group that has recently voiced criticism of police nationwide for involvement in several disputed shootings. During the ceremony, she performed a medley of songs entitled “Lemonade” that ended dramatically with her backup dancers pretending to fall to the floor after a shooting. The performance leveled a not-so-subtle public attack on the actions of police.

Little Blue Ivy‘s appearance at the awards ceremony delighted the audience. The child, born on January 7, 2012 will turn five next year. Her mother revealed her anticipated birth at the MTV awards ceremony for the first time in 2011, happy news announced after the singer sustained a painful miscarriage early that year. Both Beyonce and her daughter wore designer gowns to the awards event, although they relied upon different fashion stylists. In the past, Beyonce has taken a number of publicity photos wearing the same clothing designs as her youngster.

Beyonce’s performance at the awards ceremony drew a harsh comment from former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani on Monday. Appearing on Fox and Friends, he vigorously defended the actions of the New York Police Department in protecting the public, including Black people. He criticized Black Lives Matter recently as “inherently racist” in focus.
