Yanni Hufnagel: A Basketball Coach with a Difference

From a glance, Yanni Hufnagel is a typical thirty-year-old man with a beautiful house and a great job that will make him a millionaire in a short period. Yanni has one of the most lucrative jobs in the world; he is a basketball coach at Harvard.


The irony is he was once kicked out of the basketball team while he was in high school. He later became the assistant coach at Harvard, proving that you don’t need to be tall to be a basketball team.


Yanni attained great success as the coach of Harvard basketball. He led the team to win the Ivy League in 2011 which was the first time for the team to win such a title. In a survey that was done in 2011 by CBS Sports survey, Yanni was voted as the ‘assistant coach who will make it big in the industry because of his recruiting ability.’


Professional career


After he had been kicked out of the basketball team, Yanni developed an interest in commentating. He developed incredible skills as a commentator and recruiter which proved to be vital in his career. He attended the Cornell University where he graduated with a Bachelor degree in Industrial and Labor Relations. Yanni later joined the University of Oklahoma to pursue his Master degree in Adult and Higher Education. While at the University, he was the graduate assistant coach of the men’s basketball team.


In 2009, he joined the Harvard Crimson basketball program as the assistant coach. During his time at Harvard, he was named ‘dream team’ of assistant coaches by CBS sports.


After leaving Harvard, Yanni Hufnagel joined Vanderbilt Commodores as their assistant coach. He was responsible for leading the team to achieve success. They were ranked 29th by ESPN.


In 2016, he accepted the position of assistant coach at the University of Nevada Wolf Pack.
