She has since been making contributions to the Potter’s House Christian School.Betsy joined the American Federation for Children to further her cause and she is the current chairlady of the organization. She admits it was difficult to educate and convince the public about the need for better educational choice.

However, through the American Federation for Children, they have come up with measures to assist in their campaign. These steps include identifying potential legislators, enlightening them about the issue, assisting them to get elected, helping in drafting and passing legislation, and helping in implementation of programs workable for children.According to her, her biggest success has to be the tax-credit scholarship program in Florida. Through this system, more than 50,000 children have been able to attend schools of their family’s choice irrespective of their economic background. Also, Louisiana and Indiana have experienced major reforms due to her efforts. When questioned about how she divides her time, she responded that she did not worry about how she spent her time since all her efforts, in the end, pay off, either locally or nationally.

Betsy DeVos’ Need for Philanthropy

Betsy DeVos’ philanthropic actions came into the limelight in 1989 when she and her husband opened the Dick BetsyDeVos family foundation. The focus of the organization was education, arts justice, and leadership development. The love and desire to see her society development prompted DeVos to engage in philanthropic actions.

Before opening the Foundation, the DeVos’ were still involved in benevolent actions. During their children’s school going age, they would come in contact with other parents from poorer backgrounds. This was when they realized how much other parents sacrificed to pay for their children’s school fees. They then began supporting individual students, which later grew into a larger community.

Gradually, they became involved in helping more low-income families to raise the school fees for their children. Betsy DeVos would later get invited to serve in two national charitable organizations: Children First America and the American Education Reform Council. The groups increased the chances for DeVos to expand her philanthropy.

Omar Boraie Funds Chair For Genomic Science At Rutgers

Rutgers University is adding 18 new chairs as part of an “18 Chair Challenge” campaign. These chairs are $1.5 million endowments that will fund groundbreaking research in the field of cancer research and treatment. Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey has just established the Omar Boraie Chair in Genomic Science. Omar Boraie is a New Brunswick developer who has endowed the funds to support genetic research and personalized management. As a developer in New Brunswick, Omar Boraie has been an integral part in the makeover the “Healthcare City”.

No cancer is the same and scientists in the genomic science field are making extraordinary discoveries leading to more individualized cancer treatments. Genomic science and precision medicine is revolutionizing cancer treatment by tackling cancer on a genetic level. Doctors are able to use these new approaches for difficult and previously non-treatable cancers and are seeings better outcomes.

In a recent State of the Union address, President Obama spoke of the wonders of genomic science and announced the launch of a national Precision Medicine Initiative. The focus of this initiative is to find a cure for cancer and other diseases that can be best tackled on a smaller scale, personalized level. Physician-scientists are the movers and shakers in the newly established field of genomic science and are providing hope to those who have previously been diagnosed as non-treatable or inoperable. Rutgers University was the only facility in the state of New Jersey and one of the first of its kind in the country to use genomic sequencing to tackle cancer with a personalized approach with precision medicine.

The Omar Boraie Chair in Genomic Science has been named to Shridar Ganesan, MD, PhD. Ganesan is the principle investigator of the medicine clinical trial being conducted at Rutgers, and an associate professor of medicine and pharmacology who has been at the Cancer Institute since 2005. Ganesan says “I am honored to be named the Omar Boraie Chair in Genomic Science. This pledge will help innovate clinical research to enable new understandings of cancer biology to benefit patients across even the most challenging disease sites, offering renewed hope for cancer patients and their families.”

As part of Omar Boraie’s plan for the redevelopment of New Brunswick, the Omar Chair in Genomic Science further shows his support for the medical field and the city he loves. NewsWise has more on this story, originally reported by them.
