First Woman Ever Completes Stage 1 of American Ninja Warrior

Jessie Graff, a Los Angeles stuntwoman and long-time fan favorite on American Ninja Warrior, has set a new world record by becoming the first woman to ever complete the show’s grueling Stage 1. She demonstrated grit and upper-body strength by overcoming the Log Grip, Propeller Bar, Jumping Spider and Warped Wall on Monday, outperforming many male competitors. She’s previously completed the Los Angeles city final multiple times, making her victory on the Stage 1 course the culmination of years of hard work.

Her career has not been without its difficulties. With 145 pounds on her 5′ 8″ frame, she has been turned down for stunt work in some Hollywood studios, who consider her too muscular to represent their star actors. She had to lie on her resume to initially get work, but her reputation has grown with her ninja victories. She suffered a knee injury in season six of American Ninja Warrior, leading to extensive rehabilitation work. However, this former college athlete never gave up on her quest to dominate the obstacle course, citing her desire to show women that they can be physically powerful.

For the future, Jessie plans to continue working in Los Angeles, where she’s currently providing stunts for Supergirl. She’s also launching a new line of women’s work-out gear inspired by the outfits she’s worn on the show. Her fans have always loved her Wonder Woman and Green Lantern costumes, so she wants to make them available to the public.
