Actress Kirstie Alley Promises to Give Curling Another Look

Celebrity Kirstie Alley recently engaged in a Twitter feud with members of the U.S. Men’s Curling Team. The outcome of the exchange will please sports fans. The actress promised she would pay more attention to curling, a sport her son enjoys watching.

An Insensitive Tweet?

The controversy began when the actress, who had watched the televised Olympic Games, expressed her opinion about curling in a Tweet with Trump-like candor. She described the game as “boring.” Her casual remark did not escape a vigilant media. It naturally inspired a loud response from curling athletes, who roundly (and rudely) protested the Tweet online.

A Happy Hollywood Finale

Like a diplomat, Kirstie Alley soon elaborated on her remarks. She indicated she had wanted to watch figure skating on television, but her son preferred to see the sport of curling. She then tactfully promised to give curling “another chance.” The aggrieved athletes welcomed her open-mindedness. They promised to send both Kirstie and her son curling team shirts!

A Popular Actress

Now aged 67 and a grandmother, Kirstie Alley has succeeded in remaining a visible and popular star during an era when senior actresses often face a paucity of roles in Hollywood. In 1982 she gained widespread public recognition after appearing in a leading role in the Star Trek franchise hit Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Her lengthy credits include film, television and stage productions. (She has won both Emmy Awards and Golden Globe Awards.)
