Harry and Meghan Announce Wedding Cake Choice

With only two months to go until the big day, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding plans are in full swing. Today the happy couple revealed their plans for their wedding cake. The spring-themed cake will be a unique lemon elderberry mix with a buttercream frosting. The cake will be decorated with fresh flowers in the spirit of the season.

The honor of official cake baker and designer was awarded to Claire Ptak, owner of the London bakery Violet Cakes. Ptak is known for her preference for using both organic and seasonal ingredients. Like Markle, Ptak hails from the state of California where she perfected her talent for baking under the tutelage of the well-known Alice Waters of the Chez Panisse bakery in Berkeley. Markle met Ptak when she interviewed her for her former lifestyle website, TheTig.com.

The May 19th nuptials will be held at Windsor Castle in St. George’s Chapel. The two announced their engagement to the world last November, and the excitement and anticipation have been building since. The cake choice came as a bit of surprise to some palace observers, as it deviated from the traditional fruit cake most often served at royal weddings. However, Prince Harry and Markle are not the first of the new Royals to depart from tradition. Harry’s brother Prince William and his bride Kate Middleton chose a chocolate biscuit groom’s cake to go along with the classic fruitcake for their 2011 nuptials.

Meghan And Harry Hit Edinburgh On First Scottish Visit

Edinburgh became the site of the fourth public appearance for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as they took a tour of the capital city of Scotland on Tuesday. The happy, engaged couple visited the crown jewel of the community in Edinburgh Castle and greeted the large crowds who turned out to see them, reported the BBC.

Their joint appearance was a first for Scotland, and making the public rounds have been an effective and friendly way to introduce Prince Harry’s American-born fiance to the people before their May 19th wedding. Harry and Meghan have also wowed crowds in Nottingham, Brixton and Cardiff.

Meghan wore a tartan Burberry coat with a black turtleneck sweater and black flared trousers by Veronica Beard in the cold, damp conditions. Edinburgh’s Lord Provost Frank Ross greeted the beaming couple who often held hands during the walk along the esplanade outside Edinburgh Castle. Adorable Shetland pony Cruachan IV, the regimental mascot of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, was waiting to give the couple a “neigh.” The nine-year-old pony was escorted by kilt-wearing Pony Major Mark Wilkinson at the famous castle.

The royal couple also attended the firing of the castle’s well-known “One o’Clock Gun.” After that event, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle went inside the Social Bite, a cafe that supports the homeless and serves sandwiches. They spoke with the organization’s staff and volunteers about the issue and the hope to eradicate homelessness. Harry added that food always brings people together where they can share ideas and have meaningful conversations.

The excited crowds on Tuesday waved Union flags that bore a picture of Harry and Meghan. Some offered her flowers, cards and gifts, and many took pictures of the loved-up couple. Well-wishers were eager to shake Prince Harry’s and Meghan Markle’s hands.

Meghan Markle’s Secret Charity Work

Meghan Markle is on her way to becoming a true “people’s princess.” The 36-year-old fiancee of Prince Harry has spent her engagement investigating her options for future charity work.

She and Prince Harry took a trip to Scotland, where Meghan visited a Social Bite sandwich shop. The company has a number of cafes in Scotland. These cafes employ people who have been or are homeless. They also provide meals and housing for the homeless. Meghan and Prince Harry spent time with employees, listening to their stories.

That’s not the end of her dedication to charitable works. News recently leaked that Markle has been secretly visiting survivors of the Grenfell Tower fire, in which 71 people lost their lives. The future royal made several trips to the Al Manaar mosque, which is providing shelter for many of the survivors. She did so with no press or cameras.

Charity work is nothing new for Ms. Markle. Before becoming engaged to Prince Harry, she spent time as a United Nations ambassador and volunteered with World Vision. Her philanthropic work took her to places like Rwanda and India, where she spent time with young women struggling in poverty. She plans to continue supporting various causes after her marriage.

The two will wed on May 19, 2018, at 7 a.m. ET. The wedding will take place at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle and be followed by a carriage ride through Windsor.
