Robert Redford Announces Plans to Retire From Acting

Recently, acclaimed film star Robert Redford told his grandson he has decided to retire from acting after many decades to focus instead upon directing and art work. During his career as an actor and director, Robert Redford starred in a string of highly successful films. From politically charged dramas such as All The Presidents Men (1976) to action-adventure epics such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), Three Days of the Condor (1973) and The Great Waldo Pepper (1975) to poignant love stories such as The Way We Were (1973), he has appeared in a number of acclaimed major motion pictures. He also helped found the highly successful Sundance Film Festival. His directing credits include directing four actors in roles for which they received Oscar nominations.

Now 80 years old and still in demand as an actor, he indicated he plans to complete two final acting projects scheduled for release during 2017: a movie co-starring Jane Fonda based upon a romantic story and a lighter comedic work with co-stars Sissy Spacek and Casey Affleck. He attributed his decision to decline further acting roles to impatience with completing repeated film takes, a tedious activity.

He expects to continue to remain creative, possibly devoting more time to sketching. His children also remain deeply involved in creative lines of work. One daughter became an actress, another works as a professional painter and artist and his son writes screenplays.
