Tom Cruise Expresses Interest in DCEU

Tom Cruise says that he would be interested in joining the DC Extended Universe, though it does not sound like there are any firm plans for that yet.

He made these comments while promoting Mission: Impossible―Fallout. Also appearing in that movie is Henry Cavill, who plays Clark Kent/Superman in the franchise. During a CinemaCon interview with MTV, he was asked if Cavill ever tried to get him to join the DCEU.

“There’s always another mountain in anything,” he said. “I’ll never say no if I find something that’s interesting, and I think an audience would like to see it, and they’re going to be entertained by it, and I feel like I can contribute something.”

For his part, Cavill said that “There would be something very interesting in that,” and specified that he thinks that Cruise should play Green Lantern.

It is also worth noting that the Mission Impossible director, Christopher McQuarrie, has expressed at least some interest in joining up with Warner Bros. to work on a Man of Steel 2 with Cavill, though as with Cruise, nothing seems to have gone beyond the idea stage.

Cruise would lend some star-power to the DCEU, but that is not necessarily enough to help the faltering franchise. Notably, he starred in The Mummy, the first and possibly last entry into the Dark Universe; that movie’s failure led some to note that day of the bankable star has passed, with even big names unable to make up for a lackluster script.

Then again, that does not mean that Cruise would hurt the DCEU. Some say that Green Lantern Corps is looking for a slightly older actor for Hal Jordan, similar to Ben Affleck Batman, so Cruise could have a shot.

Tom Cruise Is a Reliable Action Star

The movie industry is a very tricky thing. Studios invest millions of dollars in movies they believe will be huge hits. Of course, things do not always work out that way. The Hollywood movie studios often suffer massive losses on flops with big A-list stars. ‘The Lone Ranger’ starring Johnny Depp is an example of a highly anticipated and very expensive movie that did nothing at the box office. There are very few stars these days that can be depended on to make money with almost every movie they release. Dwayne Johnson has turned into one of those guys. However, he has not been around for nearly as long as Tom Cruise. He has been a box office star for more than three decades. The remarkable thing is that Cruise shows no signs of slowing down even though he is well into his 50s.

Cruise still insists on doing most of his own stunts. Fans have responded to his enthusiasm by continuing to see his movies in very large numbers. The ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise has become one of the most lucrative in the history of movies. Cruise has often been asked why he has been able to have a career that has lasted so long when so many other stars fade away. He credits his success to his ability to pick quality scripts and surround himself with good people. He is very picky about the directors he will work with. He also demands that the crews that work on his films be very experienced.

Cruise has not been doing a lot of drama films in recent years. He has been focusing mainly on the big budget summer blockbusters that tend to make a lot of money. This has been good for his career and his bank account. He is currently filming the sixth installment in the ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise that will be released in 2018. He says that doing his own stunts in action movies has kept him young.

Tom Cruise And Top Gun 2 In Flight

Tom Cruise will star in a much anticipated sequel for Top Gun next year. Top Gun 2 is in the works and will apparently be a reality. The news of the sequel comes directly from the biggest star of the original.

Original producer Jerry Bruckheimer tweeted a subtle hint with Cruise concerning the sequel back in January. Cruise took it one step further by confirming the existence of the movie on the Australian morning show Sunrise.

Cruise said the movie is definitely “happening.”

That means fans of the original flick will get to see a sequel three decades after. Top Gun was released in 1986. It starred Cruise, Kelly McGillis, Anthony Edwards and Val Kilmer. The original movie propelled Cruise into bigger stardom. His military haircut and trademark sunglasses were staples of the movie.

Cruise plays renegade pilot Pete Mitchell. Mitchell learns about flying and love during his training with the United States Navy. His nickname “Maverick” stood for his rebellious nature and courage to go against the system. His co-pilot and friend “Goose” was killed during the original film.

The original involved several iconic scenes worth watching. Cruise sings karaoke to McGillis to win his flight instructor over. The song is “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling.”

Cruise will next star in “The Mummy” on the big screen in June.
