Conor McGregor to Become a Wildling?

It certainly makes sense if you think about it—the biggest UFC fighter of our times joining the most popular, epic show on television right now. According to reports, it is no longer a rumor. Irish MMA fighter Conor McGregor has been tapped to appear on HBO’s Game of Thrones. Reportedly, the director of the show has always been a big mixed martial fan, so it’s not a surprise that McGregor will be appearing on the show. Rumors are running rampant as far as which role he will be playing. Many have commented on McGregor’s resemblance to the actor who plays Tormund, and that character has been enjoying an especially interesting arc recently.

However, others seem to believe that McGregor will want to have some scenes with The Mountain, played by strongman Hafþór Júlíus “Thor” Björnsson. In real life, The Mountain stands at approximately six feet and nine inches, so the contrast between himself and 160-pound McGregor would be interesting. Björnsson is a sports hero in his own right, breaking a 1,000-year-old Viking record last year, so it seems like a no-brainer to put him together with the highly competitive McGregor.

At this point, however, no one in the cast or crew is talking about what McGregor’s role on the show will be. Set to become a father in 2017, the Irishman has also bought property in California and obtained a boxing license. Rumors also abound that he may try to fight Floyd Mayweather, which would undoubtedly make for exciting entertainment. Wherever McGregor goes, he always manages to put on a show. It seems that Game of Thrones will just be the latest platform to profit off of the Irishman’s natural charm and flair for getting on camera.
