Dr. Jennifer Walden Explains the Advantages and Disadvantages of Being a Female Plastic Surgeon

Dr. Jennifer Walden is one of the top plastic surgeons in Austin, Texas, but also something of a rarity in the fact she is a woman in what remains one of the most male dominated fields in the world. Dr. Walden has spent a large amount of her time trying to prove herself as a surgeon, which she has done with ease after establishing a popular practice in New York before returning to her hometown of Austin to repeat the feat in her hometown. The pressure of being one of only a small number of plastic surgeons in Texas means the surgeon is in a unique position to pass on her own experience of pushing herself to the top of a profession that sees only around 10 percent of board certified plastic surgeons as women.

Dr. Walden believes pushing to the top of the plastic surgery field is something that can be difficult for women who are forced to work harder than their male counterparts to prove themselves on a regular basis. However, social factors also come into play in the eyes of Walden, who believes the training period of up to seven years can make it difficult for many women to take the plunge and become fully qualified as a plastic surgeon and join prestigious medical groups. The graduate of the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston believes the need to put off having children for a number of years still plays a role in limiting the number of women entering the plastic surgery field.

Jennifer Walden also believes that she is in a unique position as a woman to provide the best plastic surgery experience for her clients as around 91 percent of all plastic surgery is completed on female patients. In a recent interview Dr. Walden explained the thought that most women are looking for the perfect body through plastic surgery is false and she believes the majority of women are looking to repair damage done to their bodies by pregnancy. This damage to the breasts and stomach is the major area of surgery Dr. Walden repairs as she looks to bring her skills to her patients on a regular basis.
