Teen Saves Woman from Bridge Suicide

Brennan Bardowski is being hailed as a hero in his hometown of Menominee, Michigan after saving a life the other night. The 17-year-old student was crossing the Hattie Street Bridge in near-by Marinette, Wisconsin when he noticed something odd out of the corner of his eye. It was a woman standing near the edge of the bridge and she was removing her shoes. Brennan kept his eye on her and began to realize that something was not quite right. She began to lift her leg over the edge when he made the decision to pull over.

Brennan slowly approached where the woman was. By the time he made it to her, she was completely over the railing and on the edge of the bridge. She told him that she was planning on jumping. With amazing insight for his age, Brennan managed to stay calm and slowly talk the woman out of doing what she planned. He reminded her that people would miss her and kept comforting her until she began climbing back onto the bridge. He grabbed her arms and helped pull her back over.

According to the story on WRIC.com, that went viral, being picked up and shared from some of the most notable advocates of the era, Brennan credits a video that he saw recently in school that helped him to know what to do in a situation like that. The woman is now getting the help she needs and Brennan will be receiving a life-saving award from the police department.
