Tom Cruise Expresses Interest in DCEU

Tom Cruise says that he would be interested in joining the DC Extended Universe, though it does not sound like there are any firm plans for that yet.

He made these comments while promoting Mission: Impossible―Fallout. Also appearing in that movie is Henry Cavill, who plays Clark Kent/Superman in the franchise. During a CinemaCon interview with MTV, he was asked if Cavill ever tried to get him to join the DCEU.

“There’s always another mountain in anything,” he said. “I’ll never say no if I find something that’s interesting, and I think an audience would like to see it, and they’re going to be entertained by it, and I feel like I can contribute something.”

For his part, Cavill said that “There would be something very interesting in that,” and specified that he thinks that Cruise should play Green Lantern.

It is also worth noting that the Mission Impossible director, Christopher McQuarrie, has expressed at least some interest in joining up with Warner Bros. to work on a Man of Steel 2 with Cavill, though as with Cruise, nothing seems to have gone beyond the idea stage.

Cruise would lend some star-power to the DCEU, but that is not necessarily enough to help the faltering franchise. Notably, he starred in The Mummy, the first and possibly last entry into the Dark Universe; that movie’s failure led some to note that day of the bankable star has passed, with even big names unable to make up for a lackluster script.

Then again, that does not mean that Cruise would hurt the DCEU. Some say that Green Lantern Corps is looking for a slightly older actor for Hal Jordan, similar to Ben Affleck Batman, so Cruise could have a shot.
