Tom Hanks had interest in Stormtrooper role for ‘Solo’ film

Actor Tom Hanks nearly showed up in a Stormtrooper outfit for the latest “Star Wars” movie. The former Oscar winner had apparently shown interest in appearing in a cameo for the newest film, “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” Unfortunately, due to a scheduling conflict, Hanks was unable to join James Bond star Daniel Craig as the latest actor to make a hidden appearance.

Screenrant delivered news via JOE.ie where “Solo” director Ron Howard spoke about the matter. He and Hanks have worked together for a number of films including “Splash” and “Apollo 13.” Howard said Hanks had talked to him about being in the new “Solo” movie as a Stormtrooper. However, he said Hanks was “shooting and he just couldn’t get there.” The good news is that Howard says based on Hanks’ interest, Lucasfilm now knows who to call for a future cameo role in their upcoming “Star Wars” films.

Appearing in a “Star Wars” movie seems to have become part of several actors’ bucket lists now. Actor Daniel Craig showed up in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” several years ago in the type of role that Hanks was interested in. Craig appeared in a scene involving one of the movie’s main protagonists, Rey, after she had been captured and was being interrogated. It was a brief scene, and at the time, only insiders were aware of the surprise cameo.

Hanks seems like he could have opportunities for that future role. “Star Wars 9” is still on the way for 2019, with the title and plot synopsis yet to be revealed. There are also Obi-Wan Kenobi and Boba Fett movies in the works. One has to think these projects will have at least a few Stormtroopers involved, based on all of the other films in the franchise.
